When we get hungry, we eat. Our body needs food and water as fuel to feed our body to live. Without food and water, we would die. This process is repeated over and over because this fuel is used and then discarded the next day. We all understand this.
The analogy of needing and requiring food and water to live is similar to needing Spiritual food for our soul. We know where our body will go in the end, after death, but we don’t know where our soul will go, even though we have our opinion of where it will go.
My point is this, we have to sup with Jesus Christ to feed our souls daily. The Bible is a smorgasbord of Spiritual food that we need. In addition, the Holy Spirit is our Helper, Counselor, Tutor, Guide, and Comforter as we read and meditate while reading the Scriptures. Attending a church service for one hour once a week, is like eating one meal once a week and the result is that we would become weak and eventually starve to death.
In addition to the one hour per week in church, we have heard maybe hundreds of sermons over time and believe that we have taken in enough Spiritual food to keep us “filled up,” Spiritually speaking. We are wrong.
This thinking would be like thinking that we could eat one meal only once a week and live. That’s stupid. Just like we need food for our body, we eat three meals a day and also snack every day. Not only might we become obese, but our health could be in jeopardy.
Another key point is this. We expel the used food at least every day, but we do not expel Spiritual food. In fact, we get hungry for food every day and need to eat to keep our bodies going. What’s my point? The way we eat, we are not going to starve to death. And, if they did an autopsy on our body after death, they would most likely determine what we died from.
However, if they did an autopsy on our soul after we died, to find out what our soul died from, it would be because of starvation. Ouch! To add insult to injury, not only are we starving our souls Spiritually, but no matter how much Spiritual food we take in, we are never full, we become even more hungry.
But eating food, we become so full, we push away from the table because we can’t eat more. But the next day, we are hungry again. So, if you think our snacking on Spiritual food is going to get our soul to heaven, we are deceived.
Let me say this for you to think about:
1. The man that did not ask for wealth, but told God he wanted wisdom, was King Solomon. He said every time he evaluated 1,000 men, he only found one, to be “upright”.
2. When God covered the earth with water, there must have been millions of people on earth. God saved eight people.
3. Jesus Christ said The road to His Gate, is narrow, and only a “few” find it. He also said the harvest is plentiful, but the workers are “few”. And, He said all have been invited to the wedding, but only a “few” are coming.
Conclusion: God’s Word did not change, we did.
The “Word” talks about the broad road to destruction. One does not have to be a scholar in looking at the data and facts to realize “few” are going to make it to heaven. How many times did Jesus Christ use this word to inform us? Cold Christians and lukewarm Christians are not going to make it to heaven. Jesus Christ said that He spews lukewarm Christians out of His mouth.
What group is left? Hot or on-fire Christians. What is the difference? They are “born again.” John the Baptist explained the difference between being baptized by water or by Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit and fire. Read God’s Word and obey, if you want your soul to spend eternity in heaven
